knowledge of the affects of ATOD on the developing brain. By the end of
the course participants will be able to:Explain the physical causes of
addiction; identify the effects of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs
on the brain and describe the treatment strategies recommended for alcohol
and other drugs.

By the end of the course participants will be able to: Function effectively in multicultural environments, identify learned prejudices and fears about differences and how these impact organizational culture and personal and professional relationships, increase the level of cultural competence, cross-cultural conflict resolution and creative problem solving.
A Pathways to Prevention: Strengthening Youth Prevention @
Research has shown the school and community based drug prevention programs have found that young people re less like to make destructive decisions about substance use when they are equipped with credible and accurate drug information and practical communication and refusal skills and when they have positive role models in their lives. This workshop is designed to assist prevention leaders in strengthening young people’s prevention skills.
A Special Populations and Children with Co-Occurring Disorders@
Prevention providers must be prepared to work with all cultures within their community. The hearing impaired, physically disabled and youth with co-occurring disorders are often overlooked. This workshop will focus on how to create a culture appropriate environment to meet the needs of all youth.. By the end of the workshop participants will increase their knowledge of the challenges that affect these special populations. Participants will be able to develop plans and curriculums work with special populations within their community.

Prevention providers need to assess, collaborate and evaluate their program effectiveness in order to ensure funding. During this workshop participants will learn how to assess community needs and develop community collaborations with schools and faith based organizations. By the end of this workshop participants will be able use their program outcomes to learn how to raise funds and identify additional financial resources to support their prevention programs.
Future Trends in Preventing Adolescence Substance Use
Parents, clergy, family and friends celebrate the transition from high school to higher education. However, preparation is not made how to deal with the additional pressure to engage in alcohol and drug related activities the face students on campus and the workplace. By the end of the workshop participants will learn the epidemiology of alcohol and other drugs, how college and universities are address binge drinking and how can they incorporate
prevention activities to avoid binge drinking in their programs.
“Prevention Ethics & Professionalism
for Prevention Professionals” This is workshop is designed to allow prevention professionals to understand identify and apply the certified prevention specialist and consultant code of ethics in the delivery of prevention services. By the end the course participants will be able to describe the Relationship of values and ethics, describe the relationship of personal values and behavior and understand the 12 ethical principles of the certified prevention specialist/consultant code of ethics and how they affect the delivery of services to adolescents and members of the community.
